Romanian society has a history of abandoning and institutionalising people with disabilities and mental health issues. Even though changes in approach and attitudes are happening, these people are cast as patients or just simply ill.

There are a somewhat staggering 17,000 or so disabled adults living in institutionalised care in Romania (out of a total population of 625,000 disabled adults) – the majority of whom are sidelined in society, and having little or no access to public or private places.

VizAbilArt is a practice-based research project, based in Romania, addressing issues of disability, visibility and collaboration.
The project’s aim was to develop a collaborative performance with artists with disabilities working and living in an neuropsychiatric recovery and rehabilitation centre, CRRN Racaciuni, Bacau county, north-eastern Romania.

VizAbilArt este un proiect de cercetare practica, desfasurat in Romania, care adreseaza problemele dizabilitatii, vizibilitatii si colaborarii.
Scopul proiectului a fost de a dezvolta o reprezentatie in colaborare cu artisti cu dizabilitati care lucreaza si locuiesc intr-un centru de recuperare si reabilitare neuropsihica, CRRN Racaciuni, jud. Bacau, Romania.
